Mathematics of Language everywhere 2026
Date TBA
Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY, USA)
The ACL Special Interest Group Mathematics of Language invites submissions for its first purely online conference, Mathematics of Language everwhere (MOLe). This online conference is being organized by the Department of Linguistics at Stony Brook University.
The submission deadline will be announced soon.
Scope
Mathematics of Language is concerned with the study of mathematical structures and methods that are of importance to the study of language. It includes work at every level of linguistic structure, and involves applications of both discrete and continuous maths, as well as statistics.
Mathematics of Language everywhere 2026 is open to submissions that engage with one or more aspects of the mathematics of language. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
- formal language theory and its applications to natural language
- formal analysis of linguistic theories and frameworks
- model-theoretic and proof-theoretic methods in linguistics
- algebraic methods in linguistics
- learnability and grammatical inference
- computational models of linguistic cognition
- formal models of language use and language change
- empirical analyses using formally-minded frameworks (e.g. CCG, MGs, TAG)
- mathematical foundations of modern computational linguistics (e.g. neural networks)
Papers presented at recent iterations of MOL are accessible in the open-access proceedings series.
Submission details
We invite submissions of papers that cover original, previously unpublished material in mathematical linguistics. Each submissions will be reviewed by at least three (3) members of the program committee. Papers presented at the conference will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be published in MOL’s ACL Anthology series. Accepted papers must be presented via Zoom.
- Submissions must be prepared using the ACL style files. The “Limitations” section of the ACL template does not need to be included.
- Simultaneous submission to other conferences is permitted, provided the authors indicate which other conference(s) the paper is submitted to. A paper is accepted on the condition that it will not be presented at any other venue.
- Submissions must be anonymous, but may have already been distributed in manuscript form on platforms such as arXiv.
- Submissions must not exceed twelve (12) pages of technical content, but may have an unlimited number of extra pages for references.
- There is no limit on the number of submissions per author.
MOLe 2026 uses the OpenReview conference management system for submission, reviewing and preparation of proceedings:
